Washington.- A delegation of senators, led by Senate President Ricardo de los Santos, has traveled to Washington, United States, to receive the parliamentary command for the 10th Summit of the Americas scheduled to take place in Punta Cana in 2025. This historic summit will witness the first-time visit of a North American president to the Dominican Republic and is set to be attended by 35 leaders and congressmen from across the Americas.
The senatorial delegation, in addition to President de los Santos, includes Senators Carlos Gómez (Espaillat-PRM) and José del Castillo Saviñón (Barahona-PLD). They are set to participate in the Parliamentarians of the Americas (ParlAméricas) meeting from March 11 to 14 in Washington.
The agenda for the visit involves high-level meetings and dialogue sessions with the Organization of American States (OAS), the United States Congress, and U.S. partners. The primary goal is to further strengthen institutional relations between the OAS and ParlAméricas, foster connections with their counterparts in the United States Congress, and advance preparations for the official parliamentary meeting of the 10th Summit of the Americas to be hosted in Punta Cana.
The itinerary includes a round table with the Association for Democracy of the United States House of Representatives, a meeting with the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, and dialogues with representatives of the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy, the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security, the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development, and the Secretariat for Hemispheric Affairs of the OAS.
Moreover, the senators have scheduled meetings with representatives of the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and an extraordinary session of the OAS Commission on Juridical and Political Affairs.
ParlAméricas, an independent parliamentary network, comprises the national legislatures of the 35 States of North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean.
