This is why the roads are so crowded

There are nearly 5.5 million vehicles on Dominican roads. Now we know why traffic is so difficult throughout the country

Of these, 60% are motorcycles of all sizes and shapes: small 70cc motoconchos, big, honkin’ Harleys, Yamahas, and Hondas, and even three wheelers that carry vegetables, deliver goods, and transport food items.

The National District, Santo Domingo, La Vega and Santiago head the list of the places with the most motorcycles. Fully one-third of these motorcycles belong to companies, and less than 20% belong to women.
