Puerto Plata.- Carlos Atahualpa Paulino, regional director of the Ministry of Tourism in Puerto Plata, announced that hotels and accommodations in the northern Dominican Republic are nearing full occupancy. This surge in activity is driven by the arrival of 23 out of 86 cruise ships scheduled for December, significantly boosting the region’s tourism.
To enhance visitor safety, 70 additional Politur agents have been deployed across tourist areas. Paulino also noted high occupancy rates in mountain destinations like Jarabacoa and Constanza, reflecting robust tourism growth across the northern region. The Amber Cove terminal is set to receive 32 cruise ships, while Taíno Bay will welcome 54. On four days this month, both facilities will simultaneously host five vessels, showcasing their operational capacity. Approximately 258,000 tourists are expected, averaging 3,000 passengers per ship.
This influx of visitors presents significant opportunities for Puerto Plata’s economy, promoting its natural and cultural attractions. Paulino credited the Ministry of Tourism’s strategic efforts to position the province as a premier destination, offering a unique mix of nature, culture, and hospitality. “Puerto Plata is ready to welcome thousands of visitors and solidify its role as a Caribbean tourism benchmark,” he affirmed.
