Dominican Republic government focuses on lowering air fares

The DR Government is promoting investment in new airlines in order to make them more competitive and thus lower airfares, which has been a challenge for the tourism sector, said Héctor Porcella, acting director general of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC).

“We have made an incentive in promoting investment in new lines,” he reiterated.

The official said that the Tourism Cabinet seeks to design public policies that contribute to the decrease in airfare prices.

“If we have greater competitiveness and greater offers from airlines, we can have better prices so that there will be more tourists visiting the country,” he explained, according to Hoy.
